About Naked Nepal
Naked Nepal is a blog by Singaporean photojournalist Edwin Koo, who has been based in Nepal since September 2008. It is a labour of love to record down his experiences and fleeting thoughts , as he goes about photographing and documenting the fledgling Himalayan republic. You can also see pictures of everyday Nepal at his photoblog by the same name.
Why “Naked” Nepal?
Nepal has always been described as a “Land of the Gods”, “Trekkers’ Paradise”, or “You know, the country where Mount Everest is”, but what, indeed, is Nepal? Many of my friends and relatives asked me if it’s in India, or if it’s by the sea, or if it’s actually a country! So as I discover for myself, “What is Nepal?”, I hope my observations shed a little light for those who visit this blog.
Who should read Naked Nepal?
Basically, anyone who wants to know a little bit more about this country. After a 238-year-old monarchy was toppled in 2006, Nepal became the world’s youngest republic. It is the world’s second richest country in water resources (richest being Brazil), but is also one of the world’s poorest countries. It might be interesting to know too, that The Economist recently ranked its capital Kathmandu, as the eighth worst city to live in (worst ones include Darfur, Kabul and Karachi)! Still, the “Land of the Gods” makes for an interesting travel destination – for its hospitable people, for its quirky traffic system, and for all the exotic things you can see here
